1 ore 36 min, 12 marzo 1930 anni - Salt March

Descrizione:

Taking part from March to April 1930 in India, the salt march was an act of civil disobedience led by Gandi to protest against the Salt Acts which restricted Indians from buying salt other than the British. Gandi led his followers to the sea coast, starting to produce salt by them own. A sudden rise of nationalism made more Indians interested into the Salt march. Even though on the path to the coast, British officials would beat these Indians, Indians wouldn’t fight back as they followed Gandi’s ideal of nonviolence protest. Journal articles over the world about this event made the British government hard to even ignore the accounts. The protesters and Gandi himself got arrested for a long period of time right after the Salt March, but this did trigger more independence movements for India’s self rule. The Salt march would be the first out of the various events which demanded British to end colonial rule over India. British gained pressure from worldwide due to the reports made about the Salt march asking them to end colonial rule immediately. A direct result of the event was the Government of India Act stating India had limited power to self rule and democratic elections.
