1 gen 1830 anni - Under the Wave off Kanagawa, Hokusai, 1830-1833 CE
Descrizione:
1. The mountain in the background is Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan which has been considered sacred in Japanese beliefs. Hokusai was fascinated by the mountain which is why he often drew paintings with Mount Fuji in it.
2. Hokusai was inspired by Dutch artwork and became interested in linear perspective which can be seen in the way that the mountain appears farther than the wave.
3. Japanese trade was heavily restricted at the time which explains why Hokusai used a Prussian blue in the painting.
