The National Labor Union was created to fight for 8 hour work days. It was the first National Labor Union established and paved the way for many others. It was also founded to establish unions in areas where none existed, and to establish labor reforms. In 1868, Congress provided the 8 hour work day, which the NLU had fought so hard for.
