World War I was a global conflict, involving 135 countries, centered in Europe. The two main alliances fighting against each other were the Allied Powers VS the Central powers. The main causes of WWI involved five main items; militarism, alliances, imperialism, nationalism, and assassination. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was the trigger for WWI. In regard to militarism, Britain had a large navy and Germany wanted one too. For the US, the trigger event was the sinking of the Lusitania. The war lasted about 4 years and 3 months.
