The Chineses Exclusion act was passed by Congress and was officially signed president Arthur. It was the first act passed in the United States that controlled immigration. The act was put into place in order to put a temporary prohibition on Chinese people immigrating to America. The people of the West attributed declining wages and economic troubles to the hated Chinese workers and Congress wanted to lessen this so they made the Chinese Exclusion act.
