He is known for publishing the largest chain of newspapers in the US, and for his use of yellow journalism. he used his wealth and privilege to create a media empire. He challenged former idol, Joseph Pulitzer, by charging 1 cent for his papers, and then offering higher wages to Pulitzer's staff. His papers became increasingly political, and he urged war on Spain. He followed his father into politics and began his run for presidency, but failed and returned to publishing for the remainder of his life.
