15 nov 1884 anni - Berlin Conference
Descrizione:
Effect of the rise of imperialism. A meeting between many large states of Europe (Britain, Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain) over the dividing of Africa. Africa was divided into a bunch of colonies, which were then exploited for raw materials and coerced labour. It was justified with scientific racism (social darwanism), as the Europeans believed they had a duty to "educate" the Africans. These colonies had no specific cultural or linguistic boundaries, and this remains true for the countries of Africa today.
○Did not invite Africa to the conference
○To gain public acceptance, the conference resolved to end slave trade within European powers
○Led to coerced labour, disease, the depletion of natural resources and more
