One of the best examples of a social virtual Art platform (so not a social virtual world in which artists can create art in it, but an ART social virtual world created for art and artists) is New Art City
New Art City is a toolkit and community for online exhibitions. It is a 3D multiplayer environment, that can be designed and built using their online drag & drop editor.
Visitors can see each other and chat while exploring the exhibitions. Popular shows can support hundreds of visitors at the same time from all over the world. And you can access shows on any desktop or mobile device in your web browser, without registering, downloading or configuring anything.

Over the past year there have been many exhibitions, and they are all archived in the homepage to easy access.. including a 2D/catalogue version of the works installed in the virtual space for including visitors with poor internet connection or old devices.
