The trails were dangerous, with native and animal attacks, disease, and starvation being commonplace. Those who weathered the journey were rewarded with a new frontier and unbounded freedom to do whatever it was they had a passion for. Issues arose when these settlers encroached on native lands, and conflict ensued.
