Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer who made the theory that the sun is at rest near the center of the solar system, and the Earth, spinning on its axis once daily, revolves annually around the sun. Just before his death in 1543, he had published his book, "De Revoltionibus Orbium Coelestium" in which he places the sun rather than the Earth at the center of the solar system. His book was the beginning of the Copernican Revolution.
