Dred Scott was a enslaved man who was purchased by John Emerson. The case was were Scott hired a lawyer to make him free. The decision was made to say that Scott wasn't a citizen and had no right to go to court. People like Abraham Lincoln were outraged and said that it was unfair. Southerners were happy because they kept slavery. The decision helped established the Republican Party, and today the decision shows how unjust and unfair it was for slaves.
