underground Makhnovist detachments in Ukraine."2341
According to materials pulled together in 1937, Zinkovsky had
penetrated the Soviet secret police structure
especially in order to ensure the safe return
of the Makhnovists from Rumania and their
legalization in Ukraine. Belash's testimony
says that Zinkovsky surrounded himself
with veteran Makhnovists who had been
amnestied. The underground Makhnovist
organization in Odessa was the connecting
link between the Foreign Centre and the for-
mer Makhnovists in Gulai-Polye. Moreover,
