1 gen 1886 anni - American Federation of Labor (AFL)
Descrizione:
Once the Knights of Labor decreased, the AFL rose in prominence. Unlike the Knights, the AFL did not open is membership to all workers. Instead, it organized only skilled craftsmen into trade unions. The AFL focused on higher wages and better working hours for its members. The AFL excluded African Americans and women. Even though it only focused on the white skilled male worker, it had one million members by 1900. The significance of this union was that it revived union membership and thus the survival of unions after the Haymarket riot and the downfall of the Knights.
