1 gen 1877 anni - The Great Railway Strike
Descrizione:
The Panic of 1873, which was caused by the collapse of the Northern Pacific Railroad, resulted in a sever economic depression, which led to the Great Railway Strike. Half a million workers walked off the job and employers asked the federal government to remove troops from the South during reconstruction in order to put down the strikes. The significance of this strike was that it contributed to the pulling out of troops from the South and thus, the weakening of the federal government's commitment to Reconstruction, and it established the precedent of the federal government intervening in labor disputes in support of employers.
