After years of pressure from the Boomers and other politicians, the U.S. government opened up the Unassigned Lands also known as the Oklahoma District for settlement. To decide who got the land the government held Land Runs where settlers would race for the land. The first of these land runs was held on April 22nd, 1889 at noon and the last of which was on September 16th, 1893.
