India was Britain's largest and most important overseas colonies and had been British territory since the mid 1800s. The loss of this territory marked the beginning of Britain's decolonization and the decline of Britain's colonial empire. This was especially impactful, not only because of Britain's quick decolonization, but because of Britain's heavy economic reliance on its colonies which was now destroyed. This gave Britain an even heavier reliance on international aid such as the Marshall Plan.
