Dec 9th: day Jerusalem liberated by Britain from the Ottoman empire. The evening of Dec 9th also was the beginning of Hanukah in 1917. Hanukah is a ancient Jewish celebration of the rededication of the Temple and ending of foreign occupation of Jerusalem.

The scripture read at Hanukah was from Zechariah 2:
"And the Lord will take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem. "
