1 gen 1648 anni - Beheading Charles I (1649)

Descrizione:

The decision was made by Oliver Cromwell to put King Charles into court and have him tried to treason. The real motivation behind this move was the thought that Charles I posed a threat to a Protestant country and could possibly lead a revolution against the Commonwealth.

(COMPARISON) Beheading a king is always an important moment in history, but this put into place the strength of Cromwell’s rule. Because of this it is more important than comparisons to other power gains of Cromwell such as when he had Pride’s Purge in 1649, creating a smaller and more loyal parliament. (Palmer, 160)
