19 marzo 1603 anni - James I of England (James VI of Scotland) (1603)

Descrizione:

In 1603 James VI Scotland became James I of England after the death of Queen Elizabeth. In stark contrast to the beloved queen, James I immediately had trouble with Parliament, declaring that he had the divine right of a king and should be able to rule as he saw fit. Eventually his demands and ideas would lead Parliament to secure their power in the English government, as well as to secure the civil rights of Englishmen in general, with a civil war against his descendant, Charles I. He also, for the first time, brought England and Scotland together under a single ruler, even though they remained separate states until 1707. (Palmer 157)
