1 gen 1814 anni - Triennial Convention formed
Descrizione:
By the time English-Baptist churches were well-established in America, the First and Second Great Awakenings ran their course in mass-conversion, and foreign missions became increasingly significant to American Baptists, the need for a missionary convention was felt. Luther Rice and Adoniram Judson (missionaries to India) were pivotal in establishing the Triennial Convention (General Missionary Convention) to meet this need, and, fewer than two decades later, a home mission society was also formed. Baptists in the South noticed that these organizations largely overlooked ministry needs in the South and also disagreed with the North’s perspective on slavery. As such, the Southern Baptist Convention was birthed (1845), establishing the missionary legacy of the SBC.
