in 1846, french innovator Elias Howe creates the first sewing machine in Oder to mass produce uniforms for the french military. Fifteen years earlier, Howe made an automatic sewing machine but this invention put many handmaidens out of work. This started a riot in Thimonnier’s factory, destroying up to 80 automatics and ending the almost famous invention. Howe’s upgraded sewing machines soon hit the stores for a whopping $300 each. This invention drastically changed the prices for clothing items and boosted the clothing industry.
