- English chemist and X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin takes Photo 51, an x-ray image of a DNA fiber displaying a double helix.

- The image shows an "X" pattern, which is the signature of a double helix.

- This photo was the final clue that enabled Watson and Crick to confirm that DNA was a double helix shape.

- It is believed to be one of the most important pictures of all time.

- Rosalind Franklin however did not know that the Deputy Director of her lab, Maurice Wilkins, was secretly passing her images and notes to Watson and Crick, including Photo 51.
