The pan-democratic camp in Hong Kong opposed the amendments. The pan-democrats convenor, Claudia Mo, said Hong Kong were people worried about the mainland justice system, worrying that local dissidents would be handed over to the mainland to stand trial for "economic crimes", and suggested that the government should consider making arrangements on a case-by-case basis.DAB condemned the pan-democrats, saying that its opposition would destroy the hope of the Poon's family of asking for justice.
