Charles V abdicating his throne was a great surprise to the whole world. As the 2nd most powerful man in the world, the leader of the holy roman empire, and a close acquaintance of the pope, Charles V may have seemed like he had a perfect life. In reality he faced may issues that eventually led him to giving gup his throne. He had the Protestant threat, as he was supposed to be the most Catholic man in the world, the Ottoman Threat, and the Native American threat in the Americas. He also had Martin Luther relentlessly debating and criticizing him. Lastly, he was dealing with a physical deformity. His jaw was enlongated making it difficult for him to speak. All these stresses led him to Abdicate his throne. He essentially just left, joined a monastery, and was never seen again.
