1 gen 1560 anni - Pope Marcellus Mass: Credo and Agnus Dei I (NAWM 51)

Descrizione:

Composer: Palestrina

It became Palestrina’s most famous work. Legend had it that he composed the piece in order to demonstrate to the Council of Trent that it was possible to write a polyphonic mass reverent in spirit and that did not obscure the words, thus saving polyphonic music from condemnation by the church. Though, likely untrue, it was widely believed because the text is so clear. Unlike most of Palestrina’s masses, this one is not based on an existing piece of music. To avoid monotony, he rarely had all six voices singing together.
