Composer: Juan CornagoThe translation of the Kyrie's text is “Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy”. The music is based on a Sicilian popular song in barzelletta form, and is one of the earliest surviving masses on a secular cantus firmus. It seems to have been written for the coronation and marriage at Rome of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III and Leonora of Portugal in 1452. The Mass resembles an English Mass, which he may have become acquainted with during his studies in Paris in the late 1440s.
