The Protestant Reformation was a major movement within Western Christianity, in order to challenge the Church and the papal authority. Martin Luther's writings was what sparked this movement. He believed the corruption in the Church were causing the people that followed them ending up in hell. One of the most important thing he found flawed was the selling of indulgence, talked about in the power point. This caused the Catholic Church to loose a lot of its followers, however, they refused to give up and created the Council of Trent, in order to come up with ways to respond to the Reformation, also known as the counterreformation. They reaffirmed some of their doctrines and created the inquisitions, which didn't really work.
