1 gen 539 anni a. C. - The Return and The Beginning of Temple Rebuilding

Descrizione:

The reign of the Babylonians came to an end when Cyrus the Great captured Babylon in 539 BCE and subsequently allowed exiles to return. What was supposed to be a glorious homecoming was spoiled by the harsh geopolitical and social realities in Judea. Conflicts over leadership, challenges in resettling efforts, tensions among the returnees and those who had stayed in Judea, grieve on the state of the city of Jerusalem and the recently rebuilt temple foundation which was a far cry from its glorious former self, color the landscape of Judea during the return of the exiles.

Outside of Biblical accounts, historical record for the period is scarce. What can be known with certainty is that Darius I the Persian King did support and fund the rebuilding of not just the Israelite Temple, but also the temples of other religions. With his support, the rebuilding effort resumed in full speed. In 515 BCE, the new Temple was dedicated, and is called the “Second Temple,” which lasts up until 70 CE when the Temple is destroyed by the Romans.
