In 1866, a conflict broke out between Austria and Prussia concerning control of Schleswig-Holstein. Prussia won this war in just seven weeks, annexing some of the German states that had sided with Austria originally. Other larger Austrian allies maintained their independence, however. The Treaty of Prague, which ended this war, stated that Austria was now excluded from German affairs.
