Name comes from ASSISTance and assessMENT, created by Neil and Christina Hefferman. Used to asses student mastery of subject so students learn while repeatedly solving problems, giving teachers feedback. Originally built with CTAT, which make it quicker to create cognitive tutors by writing examples instead of explicit rules.
