Keep in mind that this was when the population for the three record keeping continents which documented the effects of this quake was a mere 370 million people compared with the population of those same three continents today of 6,300 Million people, or 17 times more population now than then.

The impact on humanity of a quake of that magnitude today, (if it were to only affect those three continents) would kill 18.7 million people. That would be the comparison of today to show the impact that 1.1 million people dying in the quake of 1202 AD was much more catastrophic than one might comprehend at first glance.

The quakes from 1163 AD to 1202 AD had become so frequent and so numerous that the rich people had indeed taken to living in caves to keep their houses from falling on them just as it says in Revelation 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.
