30 dic 2019 anni - COVID-19 Pandemic
Descrizione:
It all started in the month of December, 2019. Reported cases of the same illness in the Wuhan province of China were popping up, and officials couldn’t deny it. At first, this particular ailment was thought to be pneumonia, but after some insight into the issue it was realised it was a brand-new and never-before-seen type of coronavirus. Dubbed COVID-19, this virus is particularly deadly because it spreads incredibly fast. In fact, the World Health Organisation, or WHO, has classified COVID-19 as a ‘pandemic’. But what is a pandemic, truly? The dictionary definition states that a pandemic is a disease prevalent over a whole country or the world. Clearly, this is not a term to throw around loosely. The formal name for COVID-19 is the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2 for short. This name was chosen by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses since COVID-19 is related to the SARS outbreak in 2003. However, to avoid confusion between the two, it is best to call it COVID-19 when conversing with others. Another name for this virus is 2019-nCoV – it can stand for the novel coronavirus, the 2019 coronavirus, or just coronavirus in general. Some symptoms include coughing, fever, sore throat, tiredness, short breath and headaches, to name a few. COVID-19 has killed millions of people, forced us into actual lockdown with online work and learning, home confinement, and even toilet paper hoarding! A cure or vaccine may not be found until 2021, or even 2022, so for now, we just need to stay safe, wash our hands, socially distance, and get through this as a whole entire globe. After all, at the moment, we only have this one Earth!
