Israel declared independence on May 14, 1948. This was during the time of the Arab-Israeli wars and their continued conflict. Israel's Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, went on to organize the newly created state with their military forces and international relations. The day they declared independence there were still gunshots being fired. America acknowledge their independence and that was enough for Israeli.
