On the 24th of June 2010, the First Australian Prime Minister was elected. Her name was Julia Gillard. She was the 27th Australian Prime Minister and she was Prime Minister for 3 years.

This is important because Australia gave women the rights and the power to be the head of the country. Before, they wouldn't have the rights and they wouldn't be treated the same. Now they were treated equally. Ever since 2010, there were no other female Prime Ministers.
