13 feb 2008 anni - Kevin Rudd's Apology Speech (Sorry Day)
Descrizione:
Kevin Rudd, Australia's 26th Prime Minister, Leader of the Labour Party, is well-known for his Sorry Speech to Aboriginal and Tores Strait Islander people. He was one of the only offical leaders who had apologised for all the wrong they did to the first nation's people. It was held in the Parliament House in Canberra, Australia. His speech was presented at 9:30am on the 13th of February 2008. Some of his most famous quotes stated in his speech were;
‘We apologise for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country.’
‘For the pain, suffering and hurt of these Stolen Generations, their descendants and for their families left behind, we say sorry.’
‘A future where all Australians, whatever their origins, are truly equal partners, with equal opportunities and with an equal stake in shaping the next chapter in the history of this great country, Australia.’
This speech was an apology aiming closely towards the ones affected by ‘The Stolen Generation’. This speech was close to home for many Australians of every race. Australia might have apologised to the Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander people but, they have the harder choice of having to forgive them after all these years.
