This large update had its main focus on balancing and fine-tuning the existing roster, with each character having their moveset revamped in some way. Following updates would continue the trend of focusing on balancing.

· Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Fox, Pikachu, and Captain Falcon (unlockable) as new characters
· Mushroom Kingdom III, Princess Peach's Castle, Gangplank Galleon, Yoshi's Island (64), Clock Town [unlockable], Crateria, Pokémon Stadium 3, Fourside, Sand Ocean [unlockable], Smashville, and Sky Sanctuary Zone as new stages
· Bumper, Super Mushroom, Poison Mushroom, and Star Rod as new items
· The first opening movie
· Flash-generated effects for many attacks and actions
· Resized character proportions
· Further-improved physics and gravity
· Reduced ending lag overall
· Teching, meteor cancelling and double jump cancelling
· Star KOs and Screen KOs
· Sudden Death in timed matches
· Target Smash as a new game mode
· Quality settings
