1 gen 1962 anni - Why did America become involved in Vietnam
Descrizione:
-The Americans supported Diem's weak government of South Vietnam because he was capitalist. Diem was widely unpopular amongst the Vietnamese as he was part of the landlord class and was a Christian with very little respect for the Buddhist faith.
-The Americans feared Eisenhower's "domino theory" -> if South Vietnam fell to communism, Laos, Cambodia and eventually India would also fall to communism.
-The Viet Cong were slowly taking control of S. Vietnam.
-America's "military industrial complex " meant that businesses and producers of weapons gained money from conflict, supporting the US economy.
