Julius Caesar was important as he led to the end of the Roman Republic, expanded the territory of Rome, took a number of measures to relieve the poor, helped make the financial crisis less severe, hi initiated the integration of territories that were not in Italy, and he introduced that the Julian calendar (it was based on the Egyptian calendar). The Gregorian calendar (the one we use today) is very similar to the Julian calendar. His designated heir, Octavian became the emperor as Augustus.
