Montessori begins working with children in the slums of San Lorenzo, Rome. Montessori understood the educational and social implications of the school. She continues her work from the asylums with these children, teaching them basic self-care skills, and providing a moral education. The radical change in the children included spontaneous discipline and unexpected reading and writing.
