The Yalta Conference occurs, in which a few major issues that would occur post-WW2 are being settled between the leaders of the United States of America (USA), Britian, and Soviet Russia. Notably, the occupation of Japan being handled by America, and the splitting of Korea. Whether or not the split was voluntary by America or forced by Russia is something I'm unsure of, but is not important to the overall scale of things.
