Gloria Anzaldua was a prominent figure within the poetry community, the Chicana community, and a figurehead the greater Mexican American community. Gloria Anzaldua celebrated intersectional feminism within the body of her works. Borderlands: La Frontera, specifically, exists as a celebration of Anzaldua’s heritage, as she lived in between Texas and Mexico, not truly knowing which side of the border was “hers.” Anzaldua, in effect, advocated against the constructions of borders and binaries, preventing people from pursuing their freedoms and truths. Gloria Anzaldua and bell hooks are frequently associated with one another, as they are both responsible for contributing to the origins of the Intersectional Feminist Movement that is still in effect today.
