The mine owners of this region cut back wages, increased working hours and even fired many workers due to the effect of the great depression. This caused the workers to get extremely angry and the left-wing parties attempted to revolt. As the situation started to get more serious, the government responded to this situation by sending several troops as reinforcements. This caused many villages to be bombed and destroyed and many violent deaths.
