Catalan Statue, also known as the Statute of Nuria was the first drafted statue of autonomy for Catalonia. The statue was promoted by President of the Generalita of Catalonia, Francesc Macia and was approved by the Spanish parliament on September 9, 1932. One of a few main points that was drafted in the Statue is that it needed to define Catalonia as an autonomous state in the Spanish Republic. Second, the preambule offered the possibility of a future self- determination for the Catalanian people. The claims for self determination were not taken well by the rest of Spain, so it was amended, defining Catalonia as an autonomous region. The Catala Statue was short lived until after the victory of the CEDA in the general elections of 1933.
