The treaty ended the state war between Germany and the Allied Powers. It was signed on 28th of June 1919 in Versailles, exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which had led directly to the war. it had failed because the Allies had disagreed on how to treat Germany and Germany had refused to accept the terms of reparations.
