Following the deposition of Alfonso XIII, a Republic is proclaimed by the provisional government on April 14 1931. The New Republic called for many new reform that resulted in many new policies regarding . "Secular" polices that called for civil marriage/divorce and laic education ended up stripping the church of a lot of it's influence on education, social organization, and culture. The resulted seperation of church and state would prove to contribute to conflict, rest, and unease between the major political groups in Spanish society.
