After the removal of power from King Alfonso XIII and the resignation of Primo De Rivera, a new democratic republic was created spanning from 1931-1939. After it was announced a temporary government was created that lasted from the fall of Alfonso XIII on April 14, 1931 to December 9th when the Spanish Constitution of 1931 was created. The government under the rule of Manuel Azana tried to initiate various reforms and in 1933 a new government was created by the radical party under Alejandro Lerroux with the support and backing of CEDA.
