The Versailles Treaty was the most important of the peace treaties which ended World War 1. The treaty ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
Causes –
The Allies had to humiliate the Germans as much as possible to justify all the other words (they might call for substantial reparations and simply say that it was Germany’s first fault to start the war)
To cover the war’s costs, France and Britain needed to and during the war 23,000 French factories were destroyed, which meant they needed large sums of money to rebuild their economies.
Effects –
They were feeling embarrassed and wanted to get back to the allies. People really despised the compromise because people knew the war was not entirely their fault and it caused a great deal of discontent in Germany.
This had an incredible impact. Paying the allies triggered Germany’s economic collapse which meant hunger for millions of Germans. This caused great indignation among the people and outrage about the compromise that Hitler eventually took to power.
