1 gen 1867 anni - 1867: Oliver Kelley founds Grangers
Descrizione:
The National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry or the Grange was founded in 1867. It started as social and educational response to the isolation of farm folk, but as it grew it began to promote farmer owned cooperatives for the buying and selling of crops. Its goal was to free farmers from their conventional middle man to whom they were forced to pay high taxes.
In 1866 Oliver Kelly, a former Minnesota farmer and post office clerk, was sent on a tour of the south by the department of agriculture. It was the farmers isolation that most impressed him so in 1867 he founded the National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry.
