Homer Plessy was arrested in New Orleans, LA for boarding a whites only train car as a black man. He was found guilty of breaking the law in court and appealed the decison to the Supremem Court. In a 7-1 ruling the Supremem COurt decided that the doctrine of "Separate but Equal" was constitutional thus making the Jim Crow Segregation Laws legal.
