Charlie "Yardbird" Parker was born in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1920, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a prominent jazz saxophone soloist and music composer. Parker played in blues and jazz bands, performing in nightclubs from Los Angeles to New York. Parker collaborated with Dizzy Gillespie, and together in 1945, they created what would become known as bop or bebop music.
